Above all, we pray first.

Prayer Works.

If you ever get to a place in your life where you feel like something is missing, it’s probably a connection problem: you are disconnected from God and too connected to the world. Prayer and fasting can have a powerful impact on setting your life back on track. Prayer connects us to God.

“Before we pray that God would fill us, I believe we ought to pray Him to empty us.”

Dwight L. Moody

This House Was Built on Prayer

In June 2023, Pastors Derek and Nikki Dale, along with a group of close friends and prayer partners, came together to pray, worship, and seek God’s direction for Brighthouse Church. During this powerful time of prayer, they asked for God’s favor and guidance to move mightily within the Athens and Oconee communities. It was in this season of focused prayer and worship that God birthed the vision for Brighthouse Church.

Because our church was founded in prayer, we have always made it a priority to keep prayer at the center of everything we do. From that first gathering in June 2023 until now, we continue to honor this commitment through regular times of prayer, trusting that it is through prayer that God shapes our church and empowers us to impact our community. Brighthouse spends 21 days every January and August in
21 Days of Prayer, and it is one of the most important things we do as a church.

About Fasting

Fasting is one of the least known disciplines in the church, but it is a practice mentioned both in the Old and New Testament of the Bible and by Jesus Himself, and it has incredible power for our lives today.

Fasting disconnects us from the world.

Fasting isn't about punishing yourself because God wants you to suffer, rather it's about intentionally disconnecting from worldly things for a season so you can hear from God and experience the abundant life He has for you.
